PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said that Rafizi had denied making such statements.
The banners bear the words, ‘How many more PAS leaders who are racist and anti-democracy? Please do not be two-faced.’
Fahmi said the party has consequently instructed party members to take down the banners which are “full of malicious slander”.
“We denounce provocation by political adversaries who are trying to use the current situation in Selangor to carry out their narrow-minded and racial political agenda.
“Stop such archaic political games!” he said in a statement today.
Speaking to Malaysiakini later, Fahmi said although PKR could only confirm that there was only one such banner, he believes there were more.
“We believe there are more banners as there cannot be only one,” he said, adding that the banner is believed to have been hung last night.
“We received the information about the banner at around 9am today. We were informed by party members who were told about the banner by residents there,” he said.
The words on the banner appear to be extracted from a statement made by Rafizi last month.
The Pandan MP had urged PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to disclose how many other top PAS leadership share the “race-based and anti-democratic” views of its research centre operations director Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki.
“(Abdul Hadi must state) How many more among the PAS central leadership have similar race-based and anti-democratic views, so that we know their stand, instead of being two-faced (bermuka-muka) and expressing treacherous proposals in closed chat groups as that done by Dr Zuhdi Marzuki?” Rafizi had said in the statement.
Zuhdi, in a WhatsApp conversation among PAS central committee members which was leaked, had said that a cooperation with Umno would enable PAS to establish Malay-Muslim hegemony in Selangor, and will allow PAS to “swat away” complaints from DAP and non-Muslims regarding the ‘Allah’ issue and also church raids.
