The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) today urged the government to consider two months’ bonus for civil servants in the 2015 Budget.

Its president, Azih Muda (right), said the proposal was made in line with the country’s encouraging economic growth and to show appreciation to civil servants for their contributions to the positive development.

“The country’s economy is showing a positive growth with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) poised to expand by over five percent.

“We believe the momentum will increase with the efficiency of the prime generators of the economy, the civil servants,” he said at the presentation of Cuepacs’ donations to various entities in Kuala Lumpur today.

At the event, the Malaysian Medical Relief Society (Mercy Malaysia) received RM20,000 to help the Palestinians in Gaza, while Ma’ahad Tahfiz Iqro Alquran and Darul Atiq Care Centre each received RM5,000.

Azih said Cuepacs would write an official letter to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is also Finance Minister, to consider the request.

On government’s willingness to study whether Facebook should be blocked and shut down, Azih said such a ban would not be so effective to prevent abuse.

Instead, he said early education about the use of the social website would help prevent it from being abused.

“What needs to be done by the government is to inculcate integrity among the people in the country, so that they will be more professional and able to understand the situation by differentiating true and false information that went viral on social websites,” he added.
