Sarawak PKR members and supporters are concerned that the controversy surrounding Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim may have a bearing on the performance of Sarawak Pakatan Rakyat in the coming state election.

Their concerns have been conveyed to state PKR chief Baru Bian (right).

Said a PKR divisional leader who did not wish to be named: "The people are getting fed-up with the internal bickering in PKR and the spats between PKR and its partner PAS.

"Some are even angry with what is going on as they have high hopes Pakatan will one day form the federal government.

"Now, it seems, the road to Putrajaya is full of holes."

He said the Sarawak BN leaders were also exploiting the Selangor crisis to their advantage and telling the people that Pakatan cannot be trusted to administer their state – and so, what more to say of it managing the nation?

However, Baru brushed aside any argument that the Selangor menteri besar dispute would affect Sarawak when it faces the state election.

Baru: We have no role in Selangor affair

“I have received many calls asking for my reaction to what is happening in the political scenario in Selangor now and my thoughts as to how this will impact Pakatan ties in the state and the next state election,” Baru said.

“Firstly, we have no direct involvement in the events that are taking place in Selangor, (but) we are watching the developments from afar, like others here.

“As the matter is not yet concluded, we cannot say if it will have any effect on the politics in Sarawak and Sabah.

“If it is resolved satisfactorily and properly, then we don’t foresee it having any major impact on us here,” said Baru, who is  Ba’Kelalan assemblyperson.

“We hope the menteri besar issue will be resolved in the spirit of the Pakatan coalition, in accordance with the principles of integrity, accountability and transparency, as Anwar Ibrahim said a few days ago.”

Baru’s colleague See Chee How (left), who is the state PKR vice-chairperson, also maintains that the controversy surrounding the menteri besar of Selangor will not affect the opposition in Sarawak.

“How can that affect us? We are Sarawakians and they are West Malaysians,” See said, pointing out that the Sarawak PKR has nothing to do with events in Selangor.
