Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today he is "having fun" managing the state, despite the mounting pressure from his party, PKR, to step down.
 
Speaking to reporters after launching the third Klang bridge in Klang today, the beleaguered head of the Selangor government said the pressure was making him work harder.
 
"Oh, I'm having fun. It spurs me to do things faster," Khalid said.
 
He also said the pressure meant that he was solely serving the interests of the Selangor people right now.
 
Whether he eventually steps down or no, he said, depended on the joint decision of the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council, which is expected to be made after Aug 10.

PAS and DAP are meeting separately to discuss PKR’s proposal to replace Khalid with PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
 
"For statements made before that, I consider them individual statements. I will address the media again after Aug 10," Khalid said.

Show-cause letter 'faulty'

He remained adamant that only “process”, and nothing else, can remove him as a MB.

“If I leave, it will be by following due process,” he stressed.

This echoed his reply to PKR's show-cause letter, uploaded onto the MB's official website today.

In the reply Khalid said that PKR's letter is "faulty (cacat)" as it does not provide details of his transgression.

He also said that he was never given the actual reason for the Kajang Move, which he opposes despite the fact that he campaigned in the Kajang by-election.

He also expressed disappointment that then Kajang assemblyperson Lee Chin Cheh's (left) resignation was not punished by the party.

PKR's decision to replace him is also "premature" as PAS and DAP have yet to give their approval, Khalid said.

"I was appointed as MB according to the state constitution and I am obliged to follow that law.

"That is to say that I still have confidence of the majority of the state legislative assembly and no reason for me, according to the constitution, to resign," his reply reads.

Duties as usual

Despite the amount of pressure he has been facing, including two public forums in the past two days to discuss why he needed to leave Selangor, Khalid appeared rather unfazed and is carrying out his regular duties seemingly unaffected by the festering political temperature.

His refusal to step down has strained relationships between Pakatan Rakyat component parties, with several PAS leaders openly backing him.

“Till that process is done, I am the menteri besar and I will carry out my duties,” he said today.

Meanwhile, Khalid also refused to say if he felt he was being betrayed by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim in this controversy.

“No, I don’t wish to say anything, that is how politics have evolved in this country. And I am mature enough to understand that. We have to be professional,” he said.

Khalid said today that the third Klang bridge, which was one his pledges before the 2013 elections, will start construction immediately and will be completed in July 2016.
