Police are confident of solving the case involving the murder of Customs deputy director-general Shaharuddin Ibrahim, soon.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Gan Kong Meng said police have identified several more individuals, believed to be linked to the incident and a manhunt for them was under way.

In July, police nabbed four individuals, believed to be involved in the murder of Shaharuddin in April last year.

“...and now all suspects have been handed over to the Selangor CID to assist in investigations,” he told reporters after pinning ranks for Kuala Lumpur senior police officers today.

In the 8.15am incident, one of two suspects riding a motorcycle fired three shots from close range at Shaharuddin when the four-wheel drive he was travelling in had stopped at a traffic light in Lebuh Sentosa, Putrajaya.

Meanwhile, in the ceremony officially opened by Kuala Lumpur police chief Tajuddin Md Isa, four Kuala Lumpur senior police officers were promoted from Deputy Superintendent (DSP) to Superintendent (Supt) and all of them will be assigned to the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department.

According to Tajuddin, the newly set-up department will focus on organising crime prevention campaigns and reducing crime through an effective prevention and eradication system.
