It is not possible to complete the draft of the National Harmony Bill this year as many matters have to be scrutinised and studied before it can be tabled in Parliament.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri said it was difficult to set the time frame for the completion of the draft of the National Harmony Bill.

She disclosed this after attending a social gathering in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration organised by the Penang Malay Association (Pemenang) in George Town last night.

Also present were Penang Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Abdul Rahman Abbas and wife, Majimor Sharif, Pemenang president Mohd Yusof Latiff and Deputy Chief Minister I Mohd Rashid Hasnon.

Nancy said the Attorney-General’s Chamber was still studying the inputs from various interested parties besides cooperating with the National Unity Department to come up with a comprehensive bill.

“We need to really consider... (it) is better to have something that is really useful to the people, something that will help (to unite) the people instead of causing more break ups among the people. You see that what is happening now is provocation through the social media,” she said.
