I am not as hopeful as Fencesitter. He argued that the arrest of Eric Chia was the beginning of an effort to bring justice back to Malaysia and the millions of ringgit squandered over the last 22 years.
We will have to wait until Chia's trial begins. We will then know the evidence gathered by the prosecutors over the years since the final audit report on Perwaja was released in 1998 by the then deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim. We should then know the strength of the prosecution's case.
If the goalposts could be moved to secure the conviction of an accused such as Anwar, a similar move could be made to secure an acquittal.
