Rainbow Man and Chinese Malaysian are upset by the 'insensitive ad' regarding the black Chinese New Year bride. I think the ad is actually very funny, very true to life and makes us see ourselves for who we really are.

All races can connect to it. As much as we try and con ourselves that we all live happily together, the truth is that in almost all families there are problems when someone brings home a spouse of another race. The darker skinned the person, the worse the reaction. Even Indians have a thing about skin colour: a lighter skinned prospective spouse is generally considered by families as 'better' than a darker skinned one. (Strange, but true.)

I say keep producing these kinds of adverts. Making fun of ourselves in a general way like this makes people think. Showing up our prejudices through comedy makes us see how artificial those prejudices really are.
