I refer to the letter in malaysiakini, 'Apologise for insensitive ad'. Of course, no mother would faint if her son returned with a white-skinned foreigner.

This advertisement - which depicts a mother fainting after seeing her son bringing home a black girlfriend - is racism to the core! TV3 has unashamedly allowed itself to be used by racists. Where are our eager moral guardians (including our information minister and PAS spokesperson) when they are needed to prevent this repugnant message that dark skin is bad luck - even if it is meant to be a joke.

I am utterly appalled, disgusted and revolted by the old stereotypes of skin colour being reinforced on national TV without a whimper of censure in our ever-complaint populace. Skin-colour prejudice has to be engaged at all levels. Malaysian TV is not doing its part at all.
