Apologise for insensitive ad
I never watch local TV because much of it are mere propaganda. However over Chinese New Year, I was at a friend's house and I saw an advertisement for TV3. It was about a mother who wants everything in the house to be in red for good luck, and she fainted after seeing her son returning from overseas with a black American woman.
While that could be the reaction of some Chinese mothers, that is besides the point. Airing it on national TV is most distasteful and lacks discretion. I am surprise that the African embassies have not protested. Even the Indian community should protest too. Is the advertisement saying that their skin colour brings bad luck to the Chinese? Utter rubbish!
Why is it that the advertisement needs to touch on race and skin colour? It is unnecessary, inappropriate and insensitive. I think TV3 owes an apology to the African community here in Malaysia, and to the Indians as well.
