Sarawak Pakatan Rakyat may be on the verge of breaking up with Sarawak DAP issuing an ultimatum that it will pull out of the coalition if PAS insists of working with the federal government for the implementation of hudud law in Kelantan.
 
The ultimatum to leave the coalition was discussed at the meeting of state DAP committee in Sibu yesterday after it heard reports of PAS Kelantan meeting with the federal government for the implementation of hudud law in the state.
 
"That the decision of Kelantan PAS to work together with the federal government for the implementation of the hudud law is not only against the common manifesto of Pakatan Rakyat...but also against the fundamental principle and the spirit of the federal constitution and the Malaysia agreement,” Sarawak DAP said in a statement.
 
"Sarawak DAP expressed regrets on the silence and non-committal on the part of PKR on such act by PAS against the common policies and the spirit of Pakatan Rakyat."

It said that unless the central PAS leadership "reverts to common policies" as per the 13th general election manifesto, Sarawak DAP will "refrain from participating" in Pakatan or PAS events.
 
Alternatively, if PAS wants to continue with its hudud policy, Sarawak DAP said it will only participate in Pakatan activities if PAS leaves the coalition.
 
The coalition which comprises the Sarawak chapters of DAP, PKR and PAS was formed in 2010 during the Sibu by-election.

Their combined forces  had been responsible for  DAP’s victory in the by-election as well as winning 15 state seats in the state 2011 state election and six parliamentary seats in 2013 general election.

National DAP informed
 
State DAP Chief Chong Chieng Jen (above) who chaired the meeting said that DAP national had been informed of their decision.
 
He said that the state DAP was unhappy that Kelantan Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah (right) met with a minister in the prime minister’s department  Jamil Khir Baharom in Putrajaya on Thursday to discuss the implementation of hudud law in the state.
 
Chong said that PAS failed to honour the agreement reached among the Pakatan parties by insisting to implement hudud law.
 
"Hence, DAP and PKR should state whether PAS should remain in Pakatan. Despite so, PKR does not seem to have a clear-cut stance.
 
"State DAP finds it unconvincing to keep the coalition going particularly now with PAS challenging and infringing (Pakatan)’s basic principle," Chong said.
 
Chong, who is the MP for Bandar Kuching said that Sarawak DAP is especially concerned as the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has released a paper arguing that hudud can be implemented without amending the Federal Constitution.

Jakim had also said that Malaysia is not a secular state as there is no evidence in the federal constitution nor has any court find Malaysia secular.
