First of all, let me declare that I am not a supporter of any political party. I am writing this based on my personal observation. Recently, PAS again was in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. This time, it plans to ban Muslims in Terengganu from patronising outlets that serve alcohol.

Malaysiakini reader CH Loh is right when he/she commented that the proposed ban deals with communal segregation and personal freedom (T'ganu alcohol laws institutionalises segregation). A Muslim or non-Muslim should be able to choose the way he/she approaches his/her religion.

I further wish to add that although PAS is a religion-based party, their members are not the Almighty's representatives on earth. Let's face reality. A religious document such as the Bible or al-Quran is written by the human hand. It did not fall from heaven therefore different interpretations may arise from it.

A follower of a religion should have the freedom on the way he approaches his religion. Whether he is pious or not is nobody's business - it is between him and God only. So whatever that will happen to him when he faces God in the afterlife is also nobody else's business. He chooses his own lifestyle and he will face the consequences or rewards in the afterlife. Afterall, God, the Almighty or Allah did not give us a brain for nothing!

So, my personal advice to PAS is to stop behaving as though you are God's representatives on earth. Please do something concrete to develop both Kelantan and Terengganu. Prove it to the Barisan Nasional and Malaysians in general that you are capable of administering and bringing progress to both states concerned. And finally, whether I will end up in heaven or hell is none of your business. So please pay attention to the relevant issues instead!
