I fully agree with the letter by Disgusted, 'Politicians don't serve, they lap up pomp', on the way our politicians expect everyone to grovel at their feet.

I travel quite a bit and notice that the abbreviation 'VVIP', denoting very very important person, is only used in Malaysia. In fact, in many other countires, even 'VIP' is seldom used. This feudal mentality has become too deeply embedded in our culture, making it quite difficult to erase, as long as the present crop of people continue to stay in power.

However, I have faint hope that Pak Lah would reduce some of these excesses. So far he has shown much more humility than his predecessor. The only thing I fear is that somehow people change as they get comfortable in their positions and degenerate like all the others before them. For your sake and mine, I hope Pak Lah is different.
