PAS has sacked three of its members for allegedly being involved in militant activities, reports the party organ Harakahdaily.

The trio are Mahmud Ahmad, 36, Muhammad Joraimee Awang Raimee, 39 and Mohd Najib Husen, 36.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar had earlier this month announced that the trio were wanted by police.

They were suspected of recruiting Malaysians as fighters for the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (Isil) or having links to the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group.

PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali said the three were sacked following PAS’ central committee meeting last night.

"Our president (Abdul Hadi Awang) had stated that anyone who is involved in any movement other than muajahah silmiyah (peaceful engagement) will be sacked.

"Therefore the PAS central committee decided yesterday to sack the three from PAS," he was quoted as saying by Harakahdaily.

Mustafa (right) said the party had investigated the trio prior to the sacking, including meeting with people close to them to find out their background and whether there were basis to the accusations against them.

He said the investigation found that they were involved in activities in Mindanao where Abu Sayyaf has training camps.

However, Mustafa said the party could not conclusively establish the nature of their activities as they have fled the country.

"Even though we cannot verify for certain the exact nature of their activity but there is reasonable suspicion.

"For the interest of the party, we took the decision in compliance with the president's instruction (to sack them)," he said.

He said any members who are sacked can make an appeal and present evidence to clear their name.

Prior to this PAS also sacked its member Lotfi Ariffin for participating in the armed struggle in Syria.
