The official PKR election results show Azmin Ali as set to retain his position as the party’s deputy president, with his vote margin rising above his nearest rival, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

The latest results revealed today also sees PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli unlikely to clinch the four vice president posts as he trails at number five behind incumbents and two others.

According to the PKR election committee, the latest official results from 195 party branches throughout Malaysia show the Gombak MP to have oibtained 21,066 votes, compared with Khalid’s 17,608 votes.

This puts Azmin, who is Selangor PKR chief, 3,458 votes ahead.

The third candidate, Saifuddin Nasution received a much lower 9,944 votes so far.

This was the first update on the contest in nearly two months. This result was announced by election chairperson Johari Abdul at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

For the four positions of vice-president, incumbents Nurul Izzah Anwar and Tian Chua, MPs for Lembah Pantai and Batu respectively, were in the lead with 27,031 and 20,480 votes respectively.

These are followed by candidates from Azmin’s camp, outgoing Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin and Seri Andalas assemblyperson Dr Xavier Jeyakumar have received 18,777 and 17,587 votes respectively.

Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli is trailing in fifth position with 17,461 votes. This is in contrast to when results were earlier announced when he came in at number two.

Azmin's allies lead in Youth, Wanita

In the contest to head the Youth wing, Selangor PKR’s Amiruddin Shari is in the lead with 4,107 votes, trailed by Selangor deputy speaker Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad who received 3,911 votes.

Meanwhile, incumbent Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin (left) is in a close race with Selangor executive council Rodziah Ismail.

Zuraida, who is closely-aligned to Azmin, leads Rodziah 8,532 to 8,057.

According to Johari, the Puchong and Kelana Jaya divisions are the last divisions yet to hold re-elections.

They will go back to the polls after Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

"Results from the Pensiangan division in Sabah is already known, but has yet to be endorsed by the central leadership committee," he said in a press conference at the party headquarters today.

He also stressed that the polls committee have the right to suspend results if it is there are breaches of election conduct.

"For example, if an offence is committed and there is evidence to prove it, we can suspend the results and call for a re-election for that division," he said.

Johari said that the final results for the entire party polls will be announced at the party congress at Stadium Melawati, Shah Alam on Aug 22 and 23.

"However, if allowed, I prefer to announce it earlier, maybe on Aug 14," he said.
