Police have detained a People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) and a Royal Malaysian Navy personnel for suspected involvement in militant activities.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said the first suspect aged 46, was arrested at Kuala Kangsar, Perak on Wednesday while the second, aged 29, in Sandakan, Sabah, yesterday.

"The latest arrests followed a special operation launched by the Counter Terrorism division at Bukit Aman on April 28," he said.

He said the Rela personnel was detained for allegedly producing rifles and supplying the weapon and bullets to militants for training at Gunung Arang Para, Kampung Nyior Ketior, Kuala Kangsar in December last year.

"A homemade rifle and 433 bullets were also seized in the operation," he said.

He said the navy personnel was detained for allegedly aiding militants from the Southern Philippines to enter Sandakan illegally on June 11.

Khalid further revealed that police today raided a house in Shah Alam, believed to be a 'safe house' for foreign militants with links to previously detained militants, to meet and transit.

He said since the launch of the special operation on April 28, 19 people had been arrested.
