Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has weighed in on his surprise defeat as Kuala Selangor PKR division chief, describing the party polls process as “flawed” (kecacatan).

"I feel there are some flaws that must be looked at with the purpose of legitimising the (poll) process," he told a press conference at Pulau Indah, Port Klang this afternoon.

Asked to elaborate of what he meant by "flaws", he replied: "If in a normal general election, during counting, the lights are suddenly shut, what (do you think) has happened?"

"I think PKR or Pakatan Rakyat too would have asked that this (poll process) to be reviewed," he said.

He added that PKR and Pakatan Rakyat often vociferously raised such concerns during the general election therefore it cannot blame the weather or the likes for any problems in the party election.

Khalid was interrupted half way through the press conference as he was passed a note, which he promptly read out.

"I cannot speak like this in front of TV3, if not later I will end up on TV3 claiming that I am condemning my party," he said to laughter from journalists.

Demand a recount

According to party rules, it is an offence for PKR members to criticise the party election in the media and any unhappiness needs to be resolved internally.

Khalid subsequently stressed he only wants to ensure the legitimacy of the party's electoral process.

Asked if he was sabotaged, Khalid replied: "No, no. We just want it (poll process) to be studied. We cannot make accusations."

However, Khalid agreed when queried if he wanted a recount.

"Yes, that is on request - to look at the forms (used in the polls) to ensure their authenticity."

In a surprise result, Khalid, who garnered 515 votes in the PKR election for Kuala Selangor division chief, was defeated by S Manickavasangam who bagged 701 votes.
