Electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 today slammed Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for "glorifying terrorism" by praising the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) movement in Iraq for their bravery.

"Glorifying the terrorism of the ISIS agenda signals the readiness of Umno to replace electoral and parliamentary competition with military and violent domination," the Bersih steering committee said in a strongly-worded statement.

"It is an international embarrassment to Malaysia and the people of Malaysia that their prime minister has lauded a terrorist group for its criminal actions," it said.

Najib (right) was reported two days ago as telling Umno members to be as brave as ISIS fighters in Iraq.

Najib must apologise

The NGO called on Najib to retract his remark and apologise to Malaysians, Iraqis, and also Syrians.

"Najib's statement is an outrageous statement that is an insult to the thousands of victims in Iraq and Syria," it further said.

It labelled Najib's remark as an "assault on humanity and civilisation".

"His call to emulate ISIS is a covert call for the politics of blood," it added.

ISIS militants have invaded parts of Iraq and have been reported to have perpetrated mass killing of Shiites.

Wisma Putra yesterday said that it is seeking Syrian cooperation to weed out the 15 Malaysians said to be fighting with ISIS there. The ministry also condemned ISIS.
