PM must back ACA
I am shocked by recent statements made by Entrepreneur Development Minister Nazri Aziz against Anti-Corruption Agency enforcement director Nordin Ismail.
By calling for the removal of the ACA chief and reminding the agency of the 'superiority' of cabinet ministers over public servants, his statements were typical of the rude and arrogant manner of ministerial conduct under the Mahathir regime.
How dare Nazri abuse his position to call for the removal of Nordin, who was only carrying out his duties empowered under the law. Does Nazri think that he is above the law just because he is a minister?
May I remind him that he is there because of the rakyat. He is clearly obstructing the ACA in its investigations, already delayed due to complexities that have arisen.
If Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is serious about wiping out corruption, he should back Nordin and the ACA in investigating the rot within the Entrepreneur Development Ministry. If allegations are found to be true, Nazri - not Nordin - should be removed from office.
