A prominent deputy minister is among those who benefited from an exercise to hand the construction of the Tapah UiTM campus to a private concessionaire, PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli claimed today.

Rafizi (left) said the deputy minister holds a minority share in the concession company, which is registered in Kuala Lumpur, and also has his daughter and a close business associate sitting on the board of directors.

This revelation was one of six UiTM campuses that Rafizi had promised exposes on regarding a privatisation exercise, which has ballooned construction costs of the campuses by at least four times.

After previously revealing that Umno leaders were linked to the concessions of four UiTM campuses, this is the fifth campus that Rafizi has targeted.

His final expose will be about the Kota Samarahan UiTM campus, to be revealed tomorrow.

Malaysiakini has contacted the deputy minister and is withholding his name pending a response.

Rafizi said that the deputy minister holds the minority share in the main concession company through another company in which he is a major shareholder.

His daughter and business associate also sit on the board of those companies, Rafizi said, referring to documents obtained from the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM).

“This confirms that every privatisation concession for UiTM benefits, at the very least, an Umno politician, with an annual rental that will burden taxpayers,” Rafizi said in a press conference at the office of the National Oversight and Whistleblowing Centre (NOW), a non-profit NGO that he spearheads as executive director.
