A DAP parliamentarian has today urged the Education Ministry to “get its act together” by properly explaining and implementing the PT3 (Form 3 assessment) that has been scheduled to replaced the current PMR examinations for Form 3 students.

Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming said that website of the Examinations Board where information should have been made available about PT3 and its implementation is not even available and non-existent.

The website, www.moe.gov/lp, was mentioned as a referral point in a Parliamentary written answer delivered to Ong by the ministry on June 18.

He said that an error prompt also shows when he tried to click on the PMR link on an alternative website for the Examinations Board.

He lamented that the ministry has yet to properly outline when PT3 will come into effect even though PMR has been scheduled to be abolished ever since the National Education Blueprint was first announced in 2012.

Ong was responding to the ministry’s annual report on the National Education Blueprint, in which it outlines the success and achievements in rolling out the blueprint.

“If the ministry cannot even get its act together to explain and implement something as basic as PT3, how much confidence can be put in the many ‘achievements’ listed in the MEB 2013 Annual Report?” Ong asked in a statement today.

He pointed out that despite a circular issued by the ministry on March 31, no guidelines has been made available on the Examinations Board website three months later.

He also pointed out that the National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) had also asked the Examinations Board to brief teachers on how PT3, a decentralised, school-based assessment, will be implemented.

“If the teachers themselves have concerns over the implementation of PT3, I can only imagine how much more in the dark are parents who have children currently studying in Form 3,” he said.
