With reference to the report on the 15 Terengganu DAP representatives who resigned from the party, I can only agree with the party's central committee stand. For those who had quit the party, good luck to them for choosing to keep their state government positions instead of sticking to principles.

Events since the 1999 general elections would show that the DAP had miscalculated on its pact with the other opposition parties over the Islamic state plan.

Having pulled out of the pact known as Barisan Alternatif, the DAP should have pulled out all their representatives despite having them stay on to represent the Chinese.

If the party maintains its 'Malaysia for Malaysians' stance, it should stick with that and co-operate only with like-minded parties. Otherwise, that stand would be a sham. Justice and democratic space should be natural principles for all political parties.

Having said that, I commend both PAS and DAP for sticking to their respective ideology. Flexibility is fine but ideology is central to the cause, whatever the cause.

Let us get away from racial representation and stick to the issues that matter - a truly Malaysian Malaysia.
