Furious that a MCA leader has criticised Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Jamil Khir Baharom, Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) launched a salvo against the party.

Isma political secretary Mohd Hazizi Abd Rahman suggested that the BN party be dissolved and its members join DAP.

Hazizi began seeing red after MCA leader Gan Ping Sieu (left) called for Jamil Khir to be dropped from the cabinet for stating that Malaysia is not a secular state.

Hazizi argued that Malaysia's identity as an Islamic state is based on facts from the historical, social contract and constitutional viewpoints.

"This is mentioned clearly in the constitution and history. But Gan is attempting to twist historical facts.

"MCA is like a party that cannot live but refuses to die. Might as well dissolve and join DAP," he told Ismaweb.

Nobody can question this

Meanwhile, Isma president Abdullah Zaik Abd Rahman warned that nobody can question the identity of Malaysia as an Islamic state.

The vocal Islamic leader cautioned that those who did so were going overboard.

"The relentless effort to change Malaysia's identity is a threat and danger to the nation.

"Malaysia remains an Islamic state, just like before it was colonised," Abdullah Zaik (right) added in a statement.

In a related development, the Malaysian Muslim Lawyers Association took Sibu MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew to task for wanting to refer Jamil Khir to the Parliament Rights and Privileges Committee over his remark that was deemed "confusing".

Association president Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar claimed Malaysia is not a secular state.

"PPMM does not see any mistake or confusion with regard to Jamil Khir’s response.

"In fact, his answer is the most accurate made by any Umno leader," Zainul said.

In view of this, Zainul called on Speaker Pandikar Amin to reject the DAP MP's motion.
