AUDIT REPORT The management of halal certification by the halal management section of Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais), especially in terms of processing of applications for halal certification and monitoring of halal certificate holders, was found to be unsatisfactory.
The Auditor-General's Report 2013 Series 2 said the processing of applications for halal certification had taken too much time and could affect Jais' reputation and industry's confidence on Jais.
The auditor-general also found that the monitoring of halal certificate holders was unsatisfactory and that complaints on products or premises selling halal products were badly managed.
As such, the auditor-general proposed to Jais to carry out a review on its halal certification application procedures and its public complaint management, by fixing a suitable period for the application to be processed and for the complaints to be addressed.
