The 32-year-old woman whose Hindu wedding was interrupted by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) has been told to change her name and religion to avoid being dragged to court for apostasy.

Zarina Abdul Majid told Harian Metro this was Jais' advice to her after she told them that she and her three siblings were brought up as Hindus by their mother, even though their father registered them as Muslims in their identity cards.
"After a discussion with Jais, they advised us to make an appeal to change our names and religion as stated in our MyKad.
"However, the appeal depends on the outcome of Jais' investigation.
"If the problem cannot be resolved, then there is the chance that Jais will haul us to court for insulting Islam," Harian Metro quotes her as saying.
Parents divorced more than 25 years ago
Zarina said her father, a Muslim convert, had taken the name Abdul Majid and it was he who registered the children as Muslims with the National Registration Department.
Zarina said her parents were divorced more than 25 years ago and she had first attempted to rectify her MyKad seven years ago, but failed.
She said that she freely participated in the Hindu temple wedding in Petaling Jaya on Sunday, and chose to marry a Hindu man as she had been brought up as a Hindu by her mother.
With the help of police officers standing outside, Jais officers stopped the wedding on Sunday and took Zarina away for an interview at their office in Shah Alam.
"I will write a letter of appeal as soon as possible so that my case does not drag on.
"I hope Jais will help," she told Harian Metro, adding that she was devoted to Hinduism despite her name.
Meanwhile, Jais deputy director-general Ahmad Zaki Arshad was reported as saying by Sinar Harian today that they were only doing procedural investigations, following complaints from the public.
He urged the people not to jump to conclusions and let Jais do its work.
