Handicapped man lost in Gunung Tebu found exhausted

A handicapped man who got lost in Gunung Tebu where he went with his family for a picnic yesterday afternoon was brought to safety by a search-and-rescue team at about 9pm.

Besut acting police chief DSP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the victim, Kamarulzaman Ibrahim, 46, from Kampung Beris Lampu, Kuala Besut, was brought down the mountain with the help of a guide, Mohd Amer Husin, 30 and members of the Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defence Department and the police.
He said Mohd Amer found Kamarulzaman in a state of exhaustion at the bottom of a slope about 1 kilometre from Lata Belatan near the foot of Gunung Tebu at about 4pm.
Speaking to reporters in Besut today, he said Kamarulzaman had arrived at Lata Belatan with 10 of his family members for a picnic, and without anyone noticing, he had gone on a hike by himself.
His absence was only noticed when he contacted the emergency line on his cellphone at 2pm yesterday.
