Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has expressed gratitude that BN candidate Mah Siew Keong won the Teluk Intan by-election today.
    
Extending his congratulations to Mah and Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin who led the BN campaign as well as to the BN election machinery for their hard work, Najib said it was "sweet" news to him on the final night of his official visit to China in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic ties.
    
"I am very thankful to Allah...I am very happy to know the BN won although by a narrow majority.

"But under the democratic system, even one vote is good enough for victory," he told Malaysian journalists covering his China visit which ends tomorrow.

The news of the BN victory was received by Najib while he was attending the Malaysia-China Friendship Dinner at a hotel here.
    
Najib, who is also BN chairperson, also called Mah to congratulate him.
    
Mah, who is also Gerakan president, polled 20,157 votes to defeat Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud of the DAP by a majority of 238 votes.

Support for BN getting stronger

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said BN's success in wresting back the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat is an important indication that the confidence and support of the people for BN is getting stronger.

He said he believed voters in Teluk Intan had made a mature decision by evaluating the good performance and experience of the BN candidate.

"We thank god the voters in Teluk Intan have chosen the BN candidate, Mah, to be their representative again.
    
"We are grateful for this victory as it proves BN continues to have the support of the diverse communities in our country," he said in a statement here today.
 
He also thanked and congratulated the voters of Teluk Intan for making the right choice and for rejecting politics of deceit and hatred.
