The Election Commission has urged electoral watchdog Bersih to be independent and not favour any party in a poll.

According to Bernama , EC chief Abdul Aziz Yusof said this when commenting on the NGO's report against Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's remark that he knows which  of the People's Volunteer Corp (Rela) voted in 2013.

"Nobody knows who voted what, not even the EC. I am not defending Zahid. Rela members are ordinary voters and their votes in Malaysia is a secret...

"Make a report if there are those who commit offences. Don't pick and choose," he is quoted by the national newswire as saying.

Bersih had earlier lodged a police report against Zahid for his comments and ticked off the EC for apparently brushing off Zahid's remark.

Zahid later said that he was merely joking when he made the speech in front of Rela members.

The minister had also said that allocations for Rela uniforms are distributed to BN elected representatives.

In response, Abdul Aziz said that Zahid was merely advising the Rela members, and not issuing a threat.
