DPM: Opposition shows no respect for late sultan

TELUK INTAN The opposition has been chided for not showing respect for the late Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, by continuing with its by-election ceramah in Teluk Intan last night.

TELUK INTAN The opposition has been chided for not showing respect for the late Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, by continuing with its by-election ceramah in Teluk Intan last night.
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said they were not only being disrespectful, but also seemed campaigning in desperation
This was unlike the BN, Muhyiddin said, which stuck with its earlier decision to stop all by-election programmes yesterday, as a sign of respect for the late head of state.
“So it seems the opposition doesn't care at all, they are desperate, maybe. They continued (to campaign), no matter what situation.
“This seems like (they) don't respect what took place yesterday,” Muhyiddin told a press conference after a meeting with Indian NGOs in Teluk Intan today.
Sultan Azlan Shah, who had reigned as Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 1989 to 1994, passed away on Wednesday at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur, at the age of 86.
Yesterday, members of the royalty, dignitaries, representatives of foreign missions and people from all walks of life thronged the grounds of Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar to pay their last respects to the late ruler.
DAP held a ceramah at Jalan Mahkota in Teluk Intan town last night (above), attracting a 2,000-strong crowd that braved the rain to attend the event.
