For a start, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is a Muslim, hence his bias in his Organisation of Islamic Conference speech.

He sought to make it pleasing and palatable for his audience and, fearing their negative reactions, he used the Jews as his 'punching bag' - which would have pleased them all. No one should then be surprised at the standing ovation he received.

It is well-known that in reports concerning the Middle East, the Malaysian government and official media have always portrayed the Israeli government as the aggressors, but not those groups who use people (even babies!) as human bombs.

Free speech to all? Certainly. It is not wrong to be outspoken but it should not be based on 'distorted facts' and untruths - issues which the western nations are up against.

Has Dr Mahathir ever spoken to the Israelis to hear out their side? They may be wrong, but are they always wrong? They may also be right! Biased judges do not make fair decisions and judgements.

Malaysia has some outstanding issues to settle with Singapore. What about the Aceh refugees? What about the Burmese issue? If we have a policy of non-intervention, then don't slander.

Domestic problems? Many feel oppressed and discriminated against. So much has been written and said by some of the more enlightened contributors to this forum. It would make sense if the prime minister and his government give priority to these issues.

The prime minister's speech has done more harm than good.
