TELUK INTAN A BN campaigner was hurt in the neck after she was allegedly punched and kicked by a man while campaigning in Taman Desa Aman in Teluk Intan yesterday.
Perak Police Chief Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani (left) said the woman, in her 50's, and a PPP party member claimed in a police report that she was kicked and punched in the neck while campaigning from house to house in the housing estate with three others at 1.30pm yesterday.
He said the woman made the police report at the Hilir Perak District Police headquarters, 20 minutes after the incident and the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
Acryl Sani was speaking to reporters after a visit to the multipurpose hall at the Hilir Perak District Police headquarters yesterday to inspect the process of early voting.
He said the man who allegedly hurt the woman also made a police report yesterday, claiming the woman tried to steal his mangoes and curry leaves before an argument broke out between them.
Commenting on the campaigning process of the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat by-election which was in its ninth day, Acryl Sani said overall, the situation was under control and calm.
"In any by-election there would surely be small skirmishes which arise from misunderstanding and excitement but they do not escalate into worse incidents. So far, we have been able to control the situation," he said.
He advised all supporters of candidates to conduct themselves well and avoid things which could provoke others, including treachery towards the candidates' posters and making statements which could lead to unpleasant situations.
"The election campaign monitoring teams set up by the Elections Commission are doing their jobs. We expect this calm atmosphere to continue until polling day this Saturday," he said.
Acryl Sani said police would also ensure traffic flow in Teluk Intan was smooth considering registered voters living outside the constituency who would return to vote.
The Teluk Intan parliamentary seat by-election sees a straight fight between BN candidate Mah Siew Keong and DAP's Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud.
