Anwar's 'stupid' Chinese remark irks Gerakan

With a smirk and not mincing words, Anwar Ibrahim had described the Chinese who support BN as "stupid".

Speaking in Teluk Intan last night, the opposition leader criticised the Chinese who still threw their weight behind the ruling coalition despite being termed as immigrants and so forth as "shameless".
Stressing on the importance of mutual respect, the PKR leader said: "If I don’t respect you, then I don't deserve your respect."
Prior to that, Anwar said: "If I am to become a leader of this nation, I must take care of the children of Chinese, Indians and Dayaks like my own children.
"When it comes to the Chinese, they are called pendatang... Apa lagi Cina mau? And there are still Chinese who support BN...," he added.
His remarks come in the wake of Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (right in photo) calling the Chinese who vote for DAP as "ingrates".
Zahid has been drawing flak over this, with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng accusing him of employing a similar logic as Adolf Hitler.
Taking Anwar to task, Penang Gerakan chief Teng Chang Yeow said that the opposition leader does not practice what he preaches.
"The problem is that the leader says one thing and does another.
"They say they want to break the racial barrier but when they campaign, they do it along racial lines," he added.
Teng (left) also asked DAP candidate for the Teluk Intan by-election Dyana Sofya Mod Daud to respond to Anwar’s remark.
"She said she wanted to break the racial barrier, where is your (breaking of the) barrier now?
"The Pakatan Rakyat leader has made a racial remark," he added.
Meanwhile, DAP leader Lim Kit Siang agreed with Anwar that "something must be wrong" with the Chinese who back BN despite being insulted.
Lim was quizzed on the difference between Zahid and Anwar’s remarks at a separate press conference this morning.
He also reminded the home minister that in a democracy, the people are the masters.
As such, he said, those who were ingrates were leaders like Zahid who treat the people with contempt.
