Najib urges moderation among Muslims

Najib Abdul Razak has urged Muslims to learn from events on Israk and Mikraj to harness the spirit of unity based on moderation and to strengthen Muslim brotherhood.

The prime minister said the brotherhood should be protected on the basis of religious struggle, collaboration, mutual support and feelings of love regardless of race and religion.
"This is the cornerstone of harmony and unity in our country and it must be defended together," he said in a special message to mark Israk and Mikraj 1435H, uploaded on www.1malaysia.com.my today.
The wisdom behind the historic events in the month of Rejab was the sincere friendship of Abu Bakar (Caliph) who earned the title As-Siddiq (truthful) for believing the words of Prophet Muhammad on Israk and Mikraj.
He said Israk and Mikraj taught that life is not solely centered on self and family but includes neighbours and friends who are honest and sincere.
Israk and Mikraj will be celebrated tomorrow (27 Rejab of every Hijrah year).
Israk is about Prophet Muhammad's night journey from Masjidil Haram in Makkah to Masjidil Aqsa in Palestine accompanied by angels Jibril and Israfil.
Mikraj is Prophet Muhammad's journey to heaven accompanied by angel Jibril to meet with Allah.
Najib said Isra and Mikraj also teach about the need to stick to the truth although the truth may not be understood and liked by others.
"This stand was taken by Prophet Muhammad when relating these events to his people. Muslims must not be affected by lies not based on facts and truth."
He said Israk and Mikraj are very significant in the history of Islam that the teaching remains relevant to the present day.
Therefore, Muslims should emulate all the 'sunnah' left by Prophet Muhammad for the well-being of the world and hereafter.
"Link what was done by Prophet Muhammad to what we have, are and will do. InsyaAllah, our strength will be reflected in our thinking and action.
"Allah may have made us Khaira Ummah (the best people) but we still have to work hard to receive 'keredhaan' or the approval of Allah," he added.
