Although he accepts his sacking as PAS Supporters' Wing chief, Hu Pang Chaw is disappointed with the manner in which it was done.

In an interview with KiniTV , Hu (left) said that the decision to drop him was undemocratic and did not follow Islamic teachings which require such decisions to be made collectively (muzakarah ).

“The problem is that change must be done democratically (in order to) truly reflect the values of Islam, that is the collective spirit, humility and respect for one another in making any required changes.

“I am not disappointed with the party. The party is not at fault. The problematic one is the leader who made the decision to cause this change.

“Do they realise that the (Supporters' Wing) leadership has been changed in this manner or is there a hidden agenda.

“If a decision is not done transparently and there is no sincerity in fulfilling responsibilities as a leader, then where will the organisation be led to?” he said, without specifying the leader in question.

Hu said that he was sacked on May 13 due to his stance on the implementation of the hudud law in Kelantan.

'Hudud not right for Malaysia'

He stressed that he has never questioned the existence of the hudud in Islam but believes that such laws are unsuitable for Malaysia.

On April 16 he had said: “The Supporters' Wing will not play any role to explain anything about the implementation of the hudud in Kelantan to non-Muslims.”

The statement was made after Kelantan deputy menteri bersar Mohamad Amar Nik Abdullah called on the wing to provide information to non-Muslims about the Islamic penal code.

On Apr 21, Hu reiterated his stand by saying that the hudud enactment was tabled by the Kelantan government without first consulting the rakyat.

He then suggested that the state government hold a referendum in the state to get feedback on its plans.

The Kelantan enactment on the hudud was passed in the state legislative assembly in 1993.

The PAS-led Kelantan government, via PAS parliamentarians, had planned to table a Private Members' Bill to expand the powers of syariah court in order to pave the way for the Kelantan enactment.

The plan has, however, been put on the backburner pending discussions with a technical committee on the hudud involving the federal government.
