Parti Cinta Malaysia has accused DAP of committing polling irregularities by using the state-funded voluntary patrol unit to campaign in front of polling centres.

PCM candidate Huan Cheng Guan said he received reports that several assemblypersons were also seen campaigning near the centres, while the limit set by the Election Commission (EC) is 50m.

At the SK Kong Ming (branch 2) school in Paya Terubong, Huan said he confronted state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh, who he claimed was campaigning, telling him a report would be lodged with the EC regarding the matter.

He believes that there are about 1,000 voluntary units spread out in Bukit Gelugor.

"What are these units doing around the schools? They are seen campaigning, with some asking voters to vote the rocket and DAP," he said.

"Everyone in Penang knows the unit is a branch of DAP. I am not angry at the unit as they may not know the law but Phee is a lawmaker and he should not flout the law," he added.

"When I confronted Phee, he replied so what? He is a lawmaker, he should not be flouting the law," Huan said.

"This is not fair to me. I am only a small party. There is no problem if they want to go against me but don't go against the law," he added.

Huan said the voluntary units claimed that they were there to aid voters but his staff told him that they never helped the disabled or senior citizens.

Huan claimed EC officers witnessed the incidents but did not do anything about it.

There are also EC reference booths in front of the polling centers so there was no need for DAP to campaign publicly.

He urged the EC officers to resign "if they don't know how to do their jobs" Huan also lodged a police report with the Air Itam police station on the incident.

"They seem to be breaking all rules. They talk about democracy, justice and Bersih (coalition for free and clean elections). But is this election free?" he asked.

In an immediate response, Phee said Huan alleged that the voluntary unit is "illegal".

"He asked me to remove the voluntary unit’s purple vest, if not he will make a police report.

"So I ask him to go ahead. He says that what we have done is wrong, so I told him so what," he added.

DAP elections communications director Ng Wei Aik said the voluntary units are on the ground to help out the voters.

"None have intruded into the polling stations," he insisted.
