Muslims were again warned during today's Friday sermon of the "growing problems" posed by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transexual (LGBT) community.

The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) in its official sermon text for today's Friday prayers lists LGBT along with prostitution, rape, drugs, alcohol and the abandoning of babies as social problems plaguing society.

"The situation is worsened with the existence of some Muslims who have lost integrity, identity and have deviated from the right path," the sermon says.

Overcoming these problems, it says, would require the Muslim community to strengthen their dakwah (missionary work) according to modern times.

The sermon also attributed the poor character of certain Muslims to their failure in being fully devoted to prayer.

"Devotion to prayer can serve as a barrier, strengthening the faith and character of our children in facing these social problems," the sermon says.

Today's theme is 'Isra and Mi'raj', referring to a journey undertaken by Prophet Mohammad when he was told of the necessity of prayer by Allah.
