DAP: Umno Youth exposes Najib's weakness

The actions of Umno Youth reflect the leadership weakness of Prime Minister and Umno president Najib Abdul Razak, the DAP said today.
DAP national legal bureau chairperson Gobind Singh Deo said these incidents have brought shame to Umno, in particular to Najib, who insists that he leads a reformist government with national reconciliation and harmony being at the top if its agenda.

“These acts of violence serve as a firm reminder of the politics of Umno and the weaknesses in the leadership of the prime minister, who has clearly failed to deliver on his promise of reforms.
"I call upon Najib to respond. I call upon him, as the chairperson of BN and as the leader of Umno, to respond. Let us know what his views are on what happened yesterday.
"As the leader of Umno, he must take full responsibility for what happened," Gobind added.
The Puchong MP was responding to the protest outside the DAP headquarters yesterday, where Umno Youth members threatened to burn down the building.
'Threats made at least four times'
The leader of the protesters, Federal Territory Umno Youth chief Mohd Razlan Mohd Rafii, had torn a copy of the memorandum and threw it at the face of DAP Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming, who received the protesters outside the compound yesterday.
Ong today presented some video footage of yesterday’s incident, as recorded by Umno Youth itself, which showed that Razlan did threaten, at least four times, to burn down the DAP headquarters.
A police report on this had been lodged yesterday and Ong once again asked Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin to respond.
“He is very active on his Twitter, but as of yesterday no public comment has been made by Khairy on this issue. This is very unbecoming,” he added.
According to Gobind, the threat to burn down a building is a very serious matter, and a serious offence under the Penal Code.
“There can be no explanation and no excuse for such behaviour. Such a threat was not a threat to the DAP alone but also a threat to society as a whole. We cannot and must not tolerate such acts of insolence.
“We condemn these protests and shows of violence in the strongest of terms and we call upon the police to act against these persons without delay, fear or favour,” Gobind said, adding that action must be taken by Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail as well.
Prior to that, a group of Umno Youth members and others stormed the Penang state assembly building.
Why no arrest yesterday?
DAP acting chairperson Tan Kok Wai also said the incidents showed the weakness of Khairy.
"Not only Khairy, but also the whole of Umno, the president of Umno himself.
"This is not the first such incident... Umno Youth members have acted like hooligans and gangsters on many occasions," Tan (left) said.
The Cheras MP urged Umno to sack all the Umno Youth members who were involved in both the incidents and recommend them to be prosecuted under the country’s laws.
Tan said that in his phone conversation with the Wangsa Maju police district chief, the police confirmed that arrest will be made in connection with yesterday’s incident, based on several grounds.
These include criminal intimidation, violation of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and mischief, since the Umno Youth members had damaged the DAP headquarters signboard
However, Tan is not satisfied, since the police did not make any arrest during the incident.
“Of course, while the police representative claimed that they were going to make arrests of the unruly people, we are wondering why no arrest was made yesterday” he said.
Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng (right), who was also present at the press conference, questioned the police on why they themselves didn’t lodge any police report, since the criminal offences “took place right in front of their eyes”, like they had done on other occasions, such as the Bersih rallies.
“I want the police to answer. If they fail to do so, then I call upon the Kuala Lumpur police chief (Mohmad Salleh) to resign,” Lim said.
