BUKIT GELUGOR Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) vice-president Huan Cheng Guan today hit out at Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer for using an abusive, hurtful word when debating during the state assembly sitting on Tuesday.
Huan said it was wrong and rude for Rayer to do that, which also resulted in uneasiness and anger, especially among the Malay community and Malay non-governmental organisations.
“The state assembly and parliament have their own immunity, but it does not mean an elected representative can simply hurl abusive words at others. Anyway, it is unfair as those verbally abused were not in the House and could not defend themselves,” he told a news conference in George Town today.
Huan, however, also slammed the action of a group of youths who stormed into the state legislative assembly building, saying it was improper and should not have happened at an august place.
“You can demonstrate if you want to, but do it outside the assembly building and not inside.
“In this matter, I urge the state assembly speaker Law Choo Kiang to take action against Rayer and the group that barged into the Dewan,” he said.
Yesterday, the state assembly sitting which entered its third day, stopped for more than an hour after a group, led by Penang Umno Youth vice-head Jasmin Nordin, forced themselves into the state assembly building.
This followed Rayer uttering “Umno celaka” (Umno be damned) when debating on the motion of thanks for the Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri’s speech when opening the assembly sitting.
Huan, who is a candidate in the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat by-election, also chided his challenger Ramkarpal Singh Deo from DAP, who is always being assisted by his elder brother, state DAP deputy chairperson Jagdeep Singh Deo and party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng in his campaign.
“If he (Ramkarpal) wants to make a speech, he should do the speech himself and not ask another person to do it for him. Don’t run to your brother for any little thing. How will you be able to debate in Parliament if you become an elected representative?”
The Bukit Gelugor by-election will see a four-cornered contest involving Ramkarpal, Huan and two Independent candidates, Mohamed Nabi Bux Mohd Nabi Abdul Sathar, 63, and Abu Backer Sidek Mohamad Zan, 46.
