A lecturer and literary activist Uthaya Sankar SB, yesterday evening had their statements recorded by the Shah Alam police over the anti-Christian seminar organised by Universiti Teknologi Mara on May 6.

Lecturer Perzeus James and Uthaya arrived at the district police headquarters at 3pm with 13 news reports and articles, and a book published by the Selangor Islamic Council titled “Pendedahan Agenda Kristian (Expose on the Christian agenda) as evidence.

Perzeus had his statement taken first after filing his report, followed by  Uthaya. Both had lodged separate police reports on the event.

“We brought together the news reports and the book as evidence. The police took one- and -a -half hours to record Perzeus’ statement, and I followed, giving a statement for slightly more than an hour,”said Uthaya.

Uthaya added that they wanted the police to investigate to ensure no repetition of such an event  which could hurt racial and religious sensitivities.

He said one the officer Inspector Rohaini Baharom recorded their statements and the case has been classified under Section 298 of the Penal Code for uttering words with deliberate intent to hurt the religious feelings of others.

They were accompanied by lawyers Annou Xavier and Bernard Scott.

It was reported that UiTM had organised the seminar entitled "The word 'Allah' and Christology in the Malay Archipelago" where the speakers made several remarks deemed anti-Christian, sparking an uproar.
