Updated version Police allowed Internal Security Act (ISA) detainee Raja Petra Raja Kamaruddin's family to visit him at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters this afternoon, while similar access to at least another detainee has been scheduled for tomorrow.

Marina Abdullah, who was accompanied by the couple's three children, told reporters and some 10 people gathered outside the police headquarters that her husband "was fine and is well taken care of".

"I am pleased that he is fine. He was not tortured by the police," she said, adding that she managed to talk to her husband for about two hours.

Raja Petra, the webmaster of the Free Anwar Campaign website (Freeanwar.com), who has been under ISA detention for the past 22 days, was among the seven detained at the outset of the police crackdown for allegedly planning to topple the government through militant means.

Following this, police arrested three others, including two Keadilan leaders, but whether they were detained in connection with the abovementioned allegation has not been disclosed.

Not pressured

According to Marina, her husband does not know the condition of the other detainees as he has not met or heard from them.

When asked if there were any messages her husband wanted to convey to the public and his supporters, Marina said there wasn't any and denied that he was "pressured" by the authorities not to say anything.

"We talked and he just wants to know if his family is all right," she said.

Marina also pleaded for the release of her husband and the other detainees, saying, "I want my husband back. He loves me and I miss him. Let all 10 of the detainees go."

The first among the families of the 10 to be granted visitation, Marina said the police told her this morning that she could meet her husband.

"I hope our family will be given more chances to visit him. I want to know his fate."

The couple's eldest son Raja Shahril, 23, when asked about his father's health said: "He is okay."

"He talks a lot but he looks skinnier than before," he added.

Another visit

Meanwhile, according to the personal assistant of another ISA detainee, Dr Badrul Amin Baharom, the latter's family have been given the green light to meet him tomorrow.

Nazaruddin Mohamed Ferdoos told malaysiakini that Badrul's family will visit him at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters.

The others arrested in the dragnet are Keadilan vice-president Tian Chua, party Youth leaders Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor, N Gobalakrishnan, Abdul Ghani Haroon, Lokman Noor Adam and Saari Sungib; social activist cum malaysiakini columnist Hishamuddin Rais and human rights activist Badaruddin Ismail.

Following the arrests, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Jamil Johari told families of the detainees not to worry about their safety or health and was quoted as saying "families would be allowed to visit them when the time is right".
