"In fact, the best political tagline for MCA in Bukit Gelugor would have been 'DAP membiarkan PAS melangkah mayat Karpal!' (DAP lets PAS step over Karpal's dead body)," he added.
The former Perkasa vice-president was referring to the late DAP chairperson and veteran politician Karpal Singh, who once said that hudud could only be implemented "over his dead body".
Karpal's death in a road accident on April 17 paved the way for the Bukit Gelugor by-election on May 25.
Zulkifli, the BN candidate for Shah Alam in the last general election, courted flak when he said that Allah had "mematikan" (killed) Karpal to facilitate the implementation of hudud.
Taking MCA to task, Zulkifli said the party was hiding behind the hudud excuse when in reality, it was afraid of a massive defeat, which might had even seen its candidate losing the deposit.
"But MCA has no right to hide behind the excuse of PAS wanting to implement hudud. To me, this is a politically paradoxical statement which is self contradictory," he added.
Employing MCA's logic, the former PKR Kulim Bandar Baharu MP said that DAP should not be fielding a candidate since PAS is their ally in Pakatan Rakyat.
He argued that MCA should have used Bukit Gelugor as the battlefield to attack DAP instead of withdrawing.
"MCA should have convinced Chinese voters that DAP's credibility is in tatters because it is allowing PAS to push for hudud," Zulkifli said.
In announcing MCA's decision not to contest, party secretary-general Ong Ka Chuan said MCA would rather focus on the hudud matter and defend the Federal Constitution.
The Bukit Gelugor by-election on May 25 will see Karpal's son Ramkarpal of the DAP battling three independents for the Parliament seat, as well as Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) vice-president Huan Cheng Guan.
