Aries46: This is Dr Mahathir Mohamad at his doublespeak best.
It was Mahathir who anointed Najib Razak as leader, fully aware of his abilities, baggage, warts and all for reasons best known to him.
In fact, Najib was DPM since 2004 and PM since 2009 though he only managed to get a mandate in 2013. So going by Mahathir’s laments that Najib was powerless without a strong mandate, is he implying that Najib is unfit to lead or that the country is on autopilot all these years?
Mahathir decries as if mandate is some special privilege to be presented on a silver platter. The mandate that Najib managed in GE13 is the voters’ perception of his ability to govern and confidence in his leadership and it is baseless to blame the people for his poor showing.
Nevertheless Najib has taken the oath of office and he is duty bound to protect the nation. How is he ever to get a strong mandate if he turns a blind eye to those that brazenly violate the laws and are out to destabilise the nation for their own selfish ends?
David Dass: Najib is prime minister for all Malaysians. And Malaysians are a diverse lot. Malaysians are ethnically, culturally and religiously diverse.
The PM cannot take the view that all non-Muslims are kafirs. He cannot take the view that hudud can be implemented without the consent of all Malaysians.
He cannot take the view that non-Malays have no right to comment on hudud and the implications of the proposal to bring in hudud. Likewise, DAP cannot maintain silence on the issue.
Whilst we wait for a thousand Karpals to rise surely the present leaders are capable of expressing their view on the subject? Leaders have to have the courage of their convictions and not wait to be safe before they take a position.

OurVotesDecide!: Two-thirds majority means nothing if it is abused. A good example of the two-thirds majority being abused was when Mahathir arbitrarily imprisoned his political opponents and had the independence of institutions of government being destroyed or compromised.
A ruling party can just have a simple majority but if it rules fairly and justly, the people in the country will be happy and will continue to support such party.
Ferdtan: Mahathir, it looks like your weak attempt, more of your characteristic doublespeak, to defend Najib to quell the rise of religious and racial tension saying he lacks power to do so will not fool anyone.
If a prime minister lacks that basic resoluteness or leadership to solve an important matter then you should call for his resignation. Yes, we guess you would eventually do so when the time is ripe.
We know who the perpetrators playing up “sensitive issues” and thus creating “racial tension” are in this country - they are from the conservative grouping in Umno and Muslim NGOs that gave the signs that they are with you.
The recent events are getting serious; the racial game played by Muslim groups have not been condemned by any government leader. Also the police remained at the sideline. In fact police were seen to be actively prosecuting opposition leaders and not the real criminals; reveals ill omen of what is to come later.
All these incidents and seditious statements are for the purpose to create a groundswell of disguised ‘discontentment’ amongst Muslim Malays against others.
Have we noticed the similarities to the development that led to May 13, 1969 racial disturbances and the Operation Lallang in 1987?
Yes, it is because of Umno; the party’s popularity has declined to the lowest level on record. The loss of 51% of popular vote by BN in the last GE was the last straw.
With or without Najib’s blessing this cabal, the names that are all familiar, is out there plotting to win back the support for Umno. They are egging (instigating) the PM to act to get him out in the open.
It is dangerous when Najib is pushed to a corner and left with no choice but to act to survive he would order for a similar ISA swoop as in Operation Lallang. Then 106 persons were arrested with only a token number of minor Umno leaders were on the list.
Will this happen? The conservatives, the Umno-PAS unity faction in PAS increased the tension by calling for hudud laws to be implemented in Kelantan - either knowingly acted for Umno’s interest or duped by them.
We caution all people from political parties, social movements, religious organisations (for good measure) and individuals get ready to have uninvited visitors at your doorsteps at dawn. Do something before it is too late.

The reality is that he, Najib and Umno are deliberately creating religious and racial tension through their notorious subsidiaries like Perkasa (of which he is the patron), Isma, etc.
Their aim is to impress the Malays into believing that they are the champions and protectors of their race and religion and hence should vote for Umno. This would enable them to continue to remain in power and steal billions through various corrupt practices.
The other much more sinister aim is to get the various ethnic groups to dislike and hate one another so that if they lose the elections they can start another May 13 easily and continue to remain in power.
Najib now does not have a mandate. He is an illegitimate PM because BN got less popular votes than Pakatan Rakyat through fraudulent elections and because of gerrymandering.
Debater: Which government in the world often has two-thirds majority? It is just an excuse for absolute power to exploit the rakyat, and not doing anything to force the rakyat to give them the two-thirds majority.
The majority of elected government ruled well with just a simple majority. So get to work instead of giving excuses.
Relevancy: There are other world leaders that do not even have close to what Najib have and yet, they lead their people to their best capabilities, not shy away like our leaders do at the first sign of trouble.
