Fair if Muslim loses hand, non-Muslim jailed
Pemerhati: Jillian Lauren is the author of the The New York Times bestseller book titled ‘Some Girls, My Life in a Harem’. When news of syariah law in Brunei came out, she said:
“The sultan is making headlines for implementing syariah law in Brunei, including a new penal code that includes stoning to death for adultery, cutting off limbs for theft, and flogging for violations such as abortion, alcohol consumption, and homosexuality. There’s also capital punishment for rape and sodomy...
“As a teenager, I was the mistress of his brother - who ‘gave’ me as a gift to the sultan. And in just one night, we committed at least two offences under his newly implemented penal code.”
If hudud is implemented in Malaysia, the rich and powerful will continue breaking the law and no one will dare touch them. It is the ordinary Muslims who will end up losing their limbs, or life.
Wira: Think of it this way. Do you want the racist and religious rants and persecutions from Umno to continue for the next 50 years or do you prefer letting PAS have their hudud as their faith dictates but with iron-clad constitutional guarantees for non-Muslims?
If the Muslims want hudud, they will eventually have hudud one day. It is better to be civil and let them have it instead of allowing the corrupt to play with our basic instinct of fear among the races and letting them continue to plunder the wealth of this country.
If the Muslims do not want hudud, let them speak out for themselves. The non-Muslims have said enough on this issue to the extent that their good intention has been spun to mean interference in their faith.
If the non-Muslims accept the hudud of PAS, Umno may eventually implode for lack of issues to divide Pakatan Rakyat and the people. If Muslims want to change religion, do not want their hands chopped off, they should speak out for themselves.
Swipenter: Hold a referendum for the Muslims to decide whether they want hudud or not. If they want it then implement it immediately.
No need to wait. No need to talk. Just do it.
If they not do want it, then bury this hudud controversy forever. Non-Muslims have be given an iron-clad guarantee that hudud will never be used against them under any circumstances.

I refer to what Boko Haram did in the name of Islam in Nigeria. Boko Haram has been abducting Christian girls and women for some time as part of its battle to establish an Islamic state in northern Nigeria.
The group appears to be putting into practice Quranic verses that grant Muslims the right to take, as spoils of war, female slaves over whom they have sexual rights.
In a video released on Monday, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau admitted for the first time that his group had kidnapped teenage girls from the Government Girls Secondary School in the predominantly Christian town of Chibok, Borno state.
He said that they should not have been in school in the first place but should instead get married. ‘Boko Haram’ means ‘Western education is forbidden’.
Shekau said: “I will sell them in the market, by Allah. I will sell them off and marry them off... Women are slaves. I want to reassure my Muslim brothers that Allah says slaves are permitted in Islam.”
Where Is Justice: I wonder if there is a due process in hudud law where one can appeal the verdict. What happens if one's limps are cut off and he is later found to be innocent?
Malays are Muslim not by choice and if allowed, a lot may choose to convert to other religions if hudud law is implemented. The practicality of this law in today's civil society is just not there.
Whatif: Of course, this is not fair to the Muslims. I object profusely that my Muslim brothers should have their hands chopped off and I, a non-Muslim just jailed.
And the death sentence for apostasy is against the basic rights of human beings to have freedom of belief and conscience. No to hudud. Even if you allow freedom of religion for Muslims, I would nevertheless say no.
LKT: Malaysia is a secular country with Islam as it official religion. It does not mean that Malaysia is an Islamic country and therefore, a hudud justice system would be unconstitutional.
PAS is betraying the 47% who voted for Pakatan during GE13. Malaysia is a multiracial society with multiple religions being practised. No one has the right just because they are in the majority to impose such a barbaric justice system on all.
The syariah court system is an example where its existence has caused innocent non-Muslim citizens to experience injustice. We must never ever believe the guarantee given by today’s politicians because tomorrow’s will twist and turn the situation to serve their personal agenda.
Quigonbond: With a Kelantan deputy MB like Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, there is no need for a unity government between Umno and PAS.
He still doesn't get it. Putting a cane there potentially gives any political party in power the right to prosecute its political opponents under hudud.
And there is no safeguard against it getting worse unless each and every facet of hudud is subject to supermajority amendment. First, there will be higher evidential threshold.
But if crime does not desist, and the system is already in place, hey, why not just make the evidential rules easier? If once it only applies to Muslims, hey, why not "relax" it to include non-Muslims so that there is "equality"?
Eventually but surely, all the earlier best intentions of safeguards will be torn asunder. If PAS cannot see this, they can be the most pious of Muslims, but they won't make good leaders in an increasingly globalised and modernising world, because they lack foresight of human weakness.
Pakatan, that's it - please eject PAS.
Commentable: If the argument for hudud is as simple as its implementation will reduce crime, think again. Why is drug trafficking/dealing still rampant when the penalty is mandatory death sentence?
People still do it and here we are not talking about losing a hand or other limbs but one’s life.
