Several highway concessionaires have submitted feedback to the government regarding issues on the toll, Works Minister Fadillah Yusof said today.

He said the feedback, which were obtained from several meetings held between him and the concession companies, would be discussed further at a meeting with the parties concerned.

"We will table the feedback from the concessionaires at the meeting on May 12 between (Minister in the Prime Minister's Department) Abdul Wahid Omar who is responsible for the Economic Planning Unit, the Public-Private Sectors Cooperation Unit (UKAS), Finance Ministry and other ministries involved.

"The meeting is to study the counter proposals from the concessionaires. That is the only development that I can disclose at the moment," Fadillah ( left ) told reporters after taking part in an integrated enforcement operation at the UniKL Campus construction project site, in Subang today.

He was asked to comment on developments regarding issues on the toll rates in the country.

No discussion on Plus takeover

Asked on developments concerning the offer by a private company that was keen to take over the concession on the North-South Highway Project (Plus), Fadillah said the matter was not under the jurisdiction of his ministry.

"This matter was not discussed at our (Ministry of Works) level, we only act as the regulatory body," he said.

Meanwhile, he said 164 accident cases at construction sites had been reported last year of which 69 were fatal accidents.

He said although the figure was small compared to the number of construction project sites and the total work force, these must be overcome to ensure the safety of workers and the public.

"Thus, we and several other relevant agencies have carried out enforcement operations at project sites to ensure that the contractors and developers followed the regulations and guidelines that had been drawn up to prevent accidents," he said.

The integrated operation was also participated by the Selangor State Immigration Department, State Health Office, Public Works Department and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health.
