A day after coming under heavy fire from DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng for allegedly "lying", PKR's vice-president Tian Chua today denies claiming DAP had agreed to PAS' plan to implement hudud in Kelantan.

"I had never once mentioned that Pakatan Rakyat had agreed to its implementation in any part of Malaysia," he said, claiming he had been misquoted.

Chua had come under heavy fire from DAP leaders, including Lim, over his perceived statement, reported in the Chinese media, that Pakatan Rakyat had taken an unified stand in support of PAS' move.

However, Chua, in a statement, further advised his DAP colleagues to be more "cautious" in debating "complex religious issues".

"Sometimes issues could be easily resolved by internal communication.

"The debate on hudud in our current political context can be overly emotional and, at times, confusing.

"I believe that news reports often have a tendency to misinterpret or even misquote statements from various leaders. I hope debates between Pakatan (component parties) should be conducted with the spirit of comradeship and mutual respect," he added.

Chua said that he merely stated that Pakatan had agreed that PAS' move to pass Bills pertaining to hudud in Kelantan and Terengganu were both done before Pakatan was formed.

"However, we would not support any move to pass the laws in any other states," he said.

"During the formation of Pakatan, our joint manifesto clearly indicated that hudud was not a part of our common agenda," he reiterated.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia (PHM) chairperson P Waythamoorthy said both political divides should come up with an assertive stand to oppose PAS' move.

"The act by PAS is illegal and should be challenged by the Attorney-General's Chambers as it is contrary to the federal constitution," he said.
