Former Kelantan menteri besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has supported the proposal for the formation of a national level committee or task force to look into enforcing hudud in the state.

The PAS spiritual adviser was reported in the New Straits Times as saying that he recognised there are technical issues which needed to be worked out before hudud under the Syariah Criminal Code Enactment II 1993 could be implemented there.

"But I do not want to interfere in the technical details as I do not like hearing too many voices. I will leave it to the experts to work," he added.

"I welcome the idea, and I am glad that hudud which was once opposed is now readily accepted," the former Kelantan menteri besar was also quoted as saying in Sinar Harian.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has proposed the formation of a task force to iron out issues on implementing hudud in Kelantan.

The legislation had been passed in 1993 but had faced legal obstacles with regard to implementation.

This resulted in PAS to propose a private members bill to impose it in Kelantan.

However, the proposal was met with scepticism from DAP and PKR.
