Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim wants "some more time" for Pakatan Rakyat to discuss and take a unified stand on PAS' move to table an independent Bill in Parliament to introduce hudud in Kelantan.

Appearing cautious, Anwar said there should be space for a "healthy discourse" on the matter before a stand can be taken.

"I don't think anyone should dismiss or belittle the PAS move on hudud. Let them explain. Disagreements should come in a respectful manner," he said.

Anwar said PAS has started explaining its move to Pakatan counterparts PKR and DAP, but the matter has not been discussed at the top leadership level yet.

Anwar also expressed his surprise at some Umno politicians expressing their support for PAS’ move to introduce hudud in Kelantan.

“I was surprised. Are they for real? Do they realise that they are liable to be prosecuted (under hudud)?” Anwar said.

Anwar stressed his confidence that Pakatan would be able to discuss and take a stand on the matter before PAS brings the Private Member’s Bill to Parliament.
