Flash floods after a heavy downpour around 5pm today caused traffic to be gridlocked in the city.

Water rose up to 0.6 metres at Jalan Chan Sow Lin, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Imbi, Jalan Kuching and Jalan Maluri, according to a city traffic police spokesperson.

He said although the rain had stopped, the traffic snarls were bad because it was the rush hour.

As at 7pm, the traffic situation was still reported to be the same.

The traffic gridlock was reported to have eased as of 9.45pm.

A city traffic police spokesperson said this followed floodwaters subsiding at those roads.

However, he said the situation had not returned to normal at Jalan Chan Sow Lin because the floodwaters there were ebbing slowly.

"Motorists, however, can still pass through Jalan Chan Sow Lin," he told Bernama.
