Police have arrested nine individuals for suspected "militant" activity, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said.
 
In a press release today, Khalid said that the individuals were arrested for planning "violent acts" to be committed both within Malaysia and abroad.
 
He said that those arrested were between 22 and 55 years old, and were arrested in various parts of Kedah and Selangor today.
 
"Some of these individuals have undergone secret meetings to enhance militant ideology, collect funds and have undergone military-like training as preparation to commit a violent act," he said.
 
He said that the individuals were arrested under the Penal Code and also under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) 2012.
 
"Congratulations to the Bukit Aman police special branch for arresting nine people suspected of involvement in militant activities in Malaysia," he tweeted earlier today.
