Seek help from Indias independent EC
Election Commission chief Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said no election commissioner in the world can truly be independent. Perhaps Abdul Rashid is not aware of TN Seshan (former commissioner for elections in India) who might be able to provide intensive coaching and classes to Rashid and his officers about the role and power of EC. Perhaps he will be able to instill some dignity to this august office.
It is obvious in our country about the immense, immeasurable abuse of power of the ruling party during the elections. Seshan was indeed a 'hell' to every politician in India including the prime minister. None were spared from his scrutiny and he had the integrity and boldness to disqualify, so to say, any candidate who overstepped election rules and regulation.
If he is to be in our country, I dare say none, including the prime minister, will escape him breathing down their napes, only to be disqualified. What we have here is a deaf-mute, castrated, sycophantic entity known as the Election Commission.
I suggest Abdul Rashid and his team to seek Seshan's help. You will find some form of salvation. You will not attain Seshan's stature as the commissioner for elections but maybe he will be able to at least make the Election Commission more meaningful.
